Seymour local Sarah Barnbrook has been nominated as the Deputy State President for the Country Women’s Association (CWA) of Victoria.

Announced in late May, Ms Barnbrook was thrilled to accept the position, building on her 10 years of service with the association as a general and state level member – including five years spent on the board.

“Advocating for our community’s most vulnerable members has always been a personal mission for me,” she said.

Ms Barnbrook is known among friends, family, and the wider community as a woman with a big heart, supporting those in her life with profound disabilities, and showing strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

Excited to make a key difference and impact in her new role, her position has put Seymour on the map, not only representing the community from which she resides, but allowing them to champion the rewards of living in regional Victoria.

Such differences and impacts will build upon her already proactive approach to crucial subjects, including her initiation of discussions on two imperative topics at an August Group conference: online graphics for children, and commercial disclosure for artificial intelligence.

Her efforts resulted in the Hume Goulburn group (a branch of the CWA) passing two resolutions at the state conference, with plans to take these resolutions to the international area conference in September.

In addition to the CWA, Ms Barnbrook is a member of the Associated Country Women of the World and has attended two world conferences, including Melbourne in 2019 and Malaysia in 2023.

Also a member of the United Nations Association of Australia, Ms Barnbrook is currently fundraising via GoFundMe to attend the United Nations conference in Geneva, Switzerland, in October.

“I believe that going will help benefit our region by gaining a deeper insight into how to localise the Sustainable Development Goals and continuing my pursuit to support women and families in Victoria,” she said.

“[It is] a fantastic opportunity to network with like-minded organisations such as the International Red Cross, World Health Organisation, and the Australian Mission to the UN.”
