Golf has an exciting future in the district if last weekend’s event at the Broadford Golf Club is anything to go by.
The club welcomed over 70 keen junior golfers to the latest Dalhousie District Golf Association (DDGA) Junior Event.
With participants arriving from all over the district and metro regions, Sunday’s event was a complete success, and one of the largest participated junior events in years across the district. With the final groups heading down the 18th fairway as the sun had almost set, Feiyu Xing from Spring Valley Golf Club was able to hold off her rivals and win with an impressive 74 off the stick.
Lilian Bu from Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links shot a net 70 to take home the best net score.
The DDGA also saw a large field for the shortened nine-hole competition. Bella Chen from Yarra Yarra Golf Club, at the age of seven, was able to shoot a 44 to beat her playing partner, another sevenyear-old named Emily Qjan from Kew Golf Club. Harvey Dunne from Hidden Valley Golf Club, after kicking seven goals in his football match in the morning, was able to shot a 45 to win the boys division.
18 Hole Event winners were: Net Winner – Lilian Bu (70), Net R/Up – Ruyi Yao (70), Gross Winner – Feiyu Xing (74), Gross R/Up – Georgia Scwartz (76) and NTP – Bonnie Sadri.
In the Nine Hole Event winners were: Gross Boys Winner – Harvey Dunne (45), Gross Boys R/Up – Lachy Gilbert-Mortlock (49), Gross Girls Winner – Bella Chen (44), Gross Girls R/Up – Emily Qian (44) and NTP – Florence Choucair.
The next DDGA Junior Event will be held on September 22 which will be held at Euroa Golf Club
