Mother’s Day is on the horizon, and as always, this Sunday will be an expression of love and gratitude to all the mothers and mother-like figures in our lives.
Observed in over 40 countries worldwide, Mother’s Day celebrates the universal joys (and challenges) of raising children, and the maternal bond that develops through heritage, culture, and life experience.
Mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers alike will know it takes a village to raise a child, and many of these preparations begin long before the arrival of a newborn child to love and to hold. Mother’s Day, then, is a generational celebration of all the women who contribute lovingly to the raising and caring of the young – and old.
As any mother will know, motherhood does not simply stop once the young leave the nest!
Local mothers enjoying some poolside fun with their children at the Kilmore Leisure Centre shared their sentiments on how they will celebrate this Mother’s Day, with Sally Porter stating she will be happily working in hospitality.
“I enjoy seeing mums with new babies having their first Mother’s Day together. We will celebrate Mother’s Day next weekend,” Ms Porter said.
St Patrick’s Primary School teacher Kiandra Kindred said she is planning a traditional Mother’s Day with breakfast in bed, followed by a catch up with her mother.
Stay-at-home mum Cassanda Green says she has no plans yet, with Rekha Rani sharing a similar sentiment, though fondly recalling being served pancakes and ice cream last year on the special day, and receiving gifts and flowers from her Coles supervisor Jennifer.
