After last week’s loss, Kilmore made a redemption with a four quarter effort against the Old Paradians in the ANZAC round.

Kilmore returned to its hard footy, bagging a 26-point win at JJ Clancy Reserve in round four of the Northern Football Netball League, NFNL.

Before the match, both teams lined up to hold a minute of silence with the crowd to remember those who served in wars and conflicts for ANZAC Day.

Once play went underway, the scoreboard may have not shown Kilmore’s pressure in the first quarter, with only two behinds, while the Old Paradians kicked two goals and a behind.

At halftime, the Blues were down nine, but they flipped the switch in the third quarter, making all the right decisions up until the final siren, claiming a 60-34 win.

Coach Paul Derrick said compared to last week’s game, the footy was the total opposite.

“Total contrary to the last week [game] where we did nothing like this week, we pretty much did everything while we played a four quarter game,” he said.

Derrick was pleased with the direction of the footy during Saturday’s match.

“The most pleasing aspect was we said, ‘find a man when they get the footy’ and the guys really busted their butts to find them,” he said.

“When they ran forward, [the Old Paradians], we chased them – all the little things we didn’t do last week, we did this week but that was the most pleasing.”

Impressive footy was shown by several players including Jake Beattie, Joshua Coe, Bailey Taylor-Egan, Chris Barton, Liam Salter, Grant Paxton.

Kilmore will play away against Fitzroy Stars in round five, which Derrick said the side needed to continue the consistency of the game.

Elsewhere, Mernda also had a significant result, with a 117-45 win against neighbours Epping.

The pressure was on from the start, with Mernda down by one point, but eventually the side went for the ball in the last three quarters for a 72-point win.

Mernda will take on Ivanhoe this Saturday.
