POLICE are calling for any witnesses to come forward following an incident where a green laser light was pointed at aircraft in Wallan earlier this month.
The Canberra Air Services Network Coordination Centre advised that three separate airlines flying from Sydney to Melbourne at around 10.56pm on April 1 reported green lasers being deliberately pointed at them.
Laser pointers have the capacity to blind or disorient a pilot, with the windows of an aircraft cockpit able to magnify the laser light and seriously harm the occupants while potentially putting the lives of about 180 passengers per aircraft at risk.
Police are looking for anyone with CCTV footage, dash cam footage, social media posts, or any other information to come forward, however it is understood the likelihood of someone having any material is low.
Wallan Police and the Police Air Wing conducted patrols of the Watson Street area where the lasers were reported but were unable to locate anyone who could assist with enquiries.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Wallan Police on 5783 0400 or visit the station. Alternatively, people can submit an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
