Seymour aquatic centre to close during April

Popular Stories

The Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre will close for about four weeks starting during the April school holidays after Mitchell Shire Council elected to undertake maintenance works to the indoor pool.

An audit in 2021 uncovered several issues of non-compliance at the pool, and councillors opted for an extended closure to address all of the issues before they deteriorated.

While the pool is closed, workers will drain it to install hydrostatic valves, balance the tank and scum gutter lining, grout and repair tiles, repair rust, acid wash the pool, and replace the heat exchange of the pool’s boiler.

Council is taking this opportunity to upgrade gym equipment, which will see minimal restrictions to gym access during the four weeks.

During this period the stadium floor will also be resurfaced, new carpet will be installed in the foyer and new chairs in the pool deck

All swim only and learn to swim members will be automatically credited during the closure period. Members will have free access to the pool and other facilities at Kilmore Leisure Centre.

At last month’s council meeting, Cr Rhonda Sanderson said the works were timed to coincide with school holidays to minimise disruption to families, and encouraged people to keep an eye on council’s website and social media pages for the exact dates of the pool closure.

“Normally we would close the pool for a week or so to undertake some of these works, but there were some other things we thought we could do at the same time, so unfortunately the pool will need to be shut for a little while,” she said.

“There will be notification to all of the existing membership base, the general community, key stakeholders such as the Seymour Sharks, Seymour Health, Nexus [Primary Health], NJF Wellness and local schools.

“We advise the community to keep their eyes and ears open for the exact dates and we can get these works done all in one batch so the pool will be fine for a few more years.”
