Businesses in the City of Whittlesea will soon be able to become more environmentally friendly, as a low-interest loan will be offered through a new program.

The council has partnered with Better Building Finance to advance businesses with their costs on reducing energy and water use.

Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said the Environmental Upgrade Agreement was useful for businesses that were in the need of being more environmentally friendly.

“This program is designed specifically to help small to medium sized businesses and organisations fund works that will have a positive environmental impact and help businesses reduce their energy costs,” she said.

Ms Wilson said businesses would be given a longer than usual terms for businesses finance.

“The loans are also available over a longer term than typical business finance, and costs and benefits can be shared between the building owner and tenant,” she said.

As part of the agreement, the program also includes upgrades on water efficiency initiatives, installation of solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and lighting replacement.
