Whittlesea Community Connections is seeking volunteer drivers to assist with transporting community members.
The Whittlesea Community Transport Service is a volunteer-based service aimed at helping people aged 65 and older travel around their area, often to the shops, appointments at medical clinics hospitals, or generally to any service they need to access.
Operations manager Parry Williams said the service was a good way to contribute to the lives of others and an opportunity to socialise.
“It’s been difficult to get volunteers over the past few years, people’s priorities change and they can no longer volunteer with us,” he said.
“It’s just a meaningful way to contribute to the community and have a chat along the way.
“It’s also about helping the older citizens maintain their independence for as long as possible.”
People interested in volunteering with Whittlesea Community Connections will receive full training and induction into the role, and work with the safest vehicles in a positive team environment with flexible shift times.
Volunteers will require different language skills and be willing to commit to 15 hours of volunteer work weekly.
For more information or to apply to be a volunteer, people can call Mr Williams on 0448 354 271 or email transport@whittleseacc.org.au.
