GISBORNE and District Cricket Association, GDCA, finished celebrating the 2021-22 season with its annual senior awards night on last Tuesday.
Each grade has three awards: the batting award, bowling award and aggregate, while the Sullivan Medal recognises the league’s best and fairest. The team of the year was also announced.
Sunbury United’s Damien Edwards was awarded the Sullivan Medal with 14 votes, with Bacchus Marsh’s Nick Strangio runner-up on 13 votes.
Wallan’s Bryan Vance tied in third place on 12 votes alongside Gisborne’s Mick Allen and Pat McKenna.
Vance also was named in the team of the year at number four, with fellow teammate Ryan Bonner named at number 10, while Romsey’s Jake East was selected at number 11.
Other winners from the area included Lancefield’s Mark Caton earning the Jensen Shield Batting Award with 331 runs at a 110.33 average; Romsey’s Paul Brady, Jason Day and Daniel Wright taking home the batting, bowling and aggregrate awards respectively; and Bethany Richardt earning the bowling award in the women’s division with 11 wickets at an 8.73 average.
