Hanging Rock to host Always Live music series

Popular Stories

Live music concerts will return to Hanging Rock in November, with the State Government announcing its Always Live series to join Victoria’s major events calendar.

Entertainers Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will perform two nights at Hanging Rock, supported by Courtney Barnett, on November 25 and 26.

Always Live brings to life a long-held dream of late Australian music icon Michael Gudinski, who owned a holiday house in Macedon, and had staged concerts at Hanging Rock for many years.

Paying homage to Mr Gudinski’s passion for live music and his home state, the event will celebrate Victoria’s music scene and highlight its national and global significance via a program of one-off events and experiences.

“Always Live was a passion project for my dad to ensure Victoria continued to be recognised as the music capital of Australia, and Melbourne as one of the leading music cities in the world,” Always Live chair Matt Gudinski said.

“Dad worked tirelessly over many years to bring his vision and concept to life and to obtain the support of the Victorian Government.

“The initiative has been in the works for a long time and has been impacted by COVID-19 leading to several postponements of its launch and delivery.

“I’m honoured to be part of now making it a reality at a time when the live music scene needs all the support it can get.”

US rockers Foo Fighters will return to perform in Victoria following their successful one-off concert in Geelong earlier this month, this time performing at AAMI Stadium, Melbourne, in December.

Other events inclide singer-songwriter Tash Sultana headlining Ocean Sounds on Phillip Island in December, and a new regional First Nations concert series, with the first event to feature singer Isaiah Firebrace at Girgarre in northern Victoria.

The full 2022 Always Live program will be announced in mid-2022.
