Construction has begun on a new shopping centre which will open at the northern end of Kilmore early next year.
Kilmore Village will bring a Woolworths, BWS, pharmacy and eight to 10 specialty stores to the town.
The 5000 square metre shopping centre is located at the corner of the Northern Highway and Clarke Street, opposite to the existing Coles and Aldi supermarkets.
The development is estimated to create more than 100 full-time, part-time and casual jobs in the community once completed.
The retail leasing campaign is being led by Colliers International on behalf of developers The Troon Group.
Colliers International is fielding expressions of interest from retailers looking to secure a place in the new shopping centre.
Colliers International’s Mark Reid said the new Kilmore Village presented a unique opportunity for local and national retailers.
“The Kilmore area has an undersupply of retail, so the opening of the new Kilmore Village will create a much-needed quality retail precinct,” Mr Reid said.
“Kilmore has an established local catchment with strong annual household income.
“We anticipate solid interest from retailers wanting to gain a foothold in this growing region in Victoria’s northern corridor.”
The Troon Group Managing director Tom McInerney said he was excited about the potential of the new retail village in Kilmore.
“After the great success of our new neighbourhood town centre in Ballarat, we have turned our passion and vision for delivering first class retail amenity to Kilmore, another flourishing Victorian regional town,” Mr McInerney said.
This should have been done in the south end of the town which is growing rapidly and people drive all the time through the town to the north end for shopping The traffic is already worse near the existing Coles/Aldi and this is going to add further chaos.
