RELAY for Life Lancefield Friendship Team held a bake sale, lolly raffle, and a game of ‘bra pong’ to continue to raise funds while lapping around Lancefield Park over the weekend.
The Cancer Council event raises awareness about cancer and helps to fundraise for research.
The global event involes a 24-hour round-the-clock relay, with one member from each team always on the running track.
Di Weatherly from the Friendship Team said she was a survivor of cancer.
“It means a lot to me to be here, I had friends around me when I was going through it, so that’s why we call ourselves the friendship team.”
“We’ve been raising funds at the trailer markets and we do Relay for Life every year, last year we raised $15,000 so we’re aiming for the same this year,” she said.
Seventeen teams gathered in total and the opening ceremony included a lap of honour for cancer survivors and carers.
Six teams were successful in receiving a Research Award for raising more than $5,000.
Teams Clarkefield and Friends, Lynne and Wendy’s Walkers, Team Friendship, Angels and Demons, Macedon Ranges Shire Council and Team Lionheart achieved the award.
