THE Wallan Classic Vehicle Club is getting ready for the 12th iteration of its Wallan Show and Shine and Swap Meet, with a greater focus than ever on serving the community as part of the attraction of the show.
Expected to attract well over 400 cars and 200 sits for swap meet stalls, the event will bring people from across Victoria to Wallan Secondary College for what is expected to be another big event this year.
There is a bit of a change in terms of being able to enter the venue this year compared to previous years, with vehicle entry via Windham Street only.
Swapmeet sites will be set up from 6.30am, while show vehicle entry will happen from 8am to 10am.
With safety in mind given the large changes on hand, show vehicles will not be permitted to leave until 12.30pm – however, all winners will also have to be present for the awards presentation at that time, creating a great atmosphere.
“It’s awesome for the town and awesome for us as a club. People are coming from all over Melbourne, and from as far as Bendigo. We’ll have a couple of cars coming from Mildura, as they just love the drive,” event organiser Kerry Walton said prior to last year’s event.
“The last couple of years have produced over 400 cars and over 200 swap meet sites. There’s a bit of everything – there will be food trucks, so you can sit on the grass and have something to eat. It’s just five dollars to get in.
“There will be trophies for the car shows and the bikes, so come on down and see how it’s going.”
Mr Walton says there’s something for everyone, with the guessing game of what’s available sure to provide plenty of thrills.
“You don’t know what will come. People might have kitchenwares, cars, roadster parts. You don’t know what will happen. There might be someone who makes tools themselves or sells fireboxes. It’s the same as the Wallan market,” he said.
Mr Walton says the event is terrific for its ability to bring together Wallan’s community, far beyond people bringing their cars and parts.
There are new categories running this year, while there are also guest judges participating.
The event will be running on Sunday, September 20 from 8am-3pm.
Entry is $5 per person, kids under 16 are free and show vehicles will command a $10 fee, including driver only.
