BROADFORD bore the brunt of another big loss in the Bendigo Football Netball League on the weekend, this time from Golden Square at Wade Street Recreation Reserve.
The Kangaroos were no match for the Bulldogs, who kicked seven first-quarter goals to take away a 47-point lead at the first change.
Broadford had a good start to the second quarter, kicking a goal through Angus Hoyne, and getting a few looks at goal, although this resulted in three behinds from its four shots at goal for the quarter. However, defensively, Golden Square continued to attack and added another seven goals to lead 96-9 at the main break.
Broadford did well to manage two goals for the quarter in the third term, with Hoyne and captain Adam Miles hitting the scoreboard, but as was a familiar pattern throughout the day, Golden Square added another seven goals for the term to extend the lead past 100 points at the final change, leading 142-22.
The Kangaroos went scoreless in the final quarter while Golden Square ran out the game well, kicking nine goals to eventually win 30.23 (203) to 3.4 (22).
Owen Sloan tried hard for the Roos, while Hoyne, CJ Brill, Miles, Brodie Stray and Riley Middleton were also named in the best.
It was also a tough day for the reserves, losing by 166 points, while the under-18s were competitive, losing by 96 points against a top four team.
In the netball competition, Broadford kept Golden Square honest, but could not stop a 40-goal loss, losing 37-77.
B grade was desperately close to a third win in four starts, falling five goals short of the Bulldogs, 38-43, while the 17 and under squad lost 64-16.
