THE much-anticipated division one bowls clash between Kilmore and Broadford delivered a thriller on Saturday at Kilmore Bowls Club.
Three different results on all three rinks was the story as Kilmore held on to take a one-shot victory, 56-55.
Daryl Kelly’s team gave Broadford great incentive, winning 22-14, but Daniel Carroll’s team took a strong win for Kilmore over David Ellis, winning 26-17.
Daniel Noonan’s rink battle with Robert Chapman went down to the final shot, but a 16-all draw meant that Kilmore held on by the barest of margins to take 13 crucial competition points, to lie as one of three unbeaten teams, alongside Kyneton and Kyneton Golf.
In other division one results, Romsey took a dominant win over Trentham, winning all three rinks and scoring a 97-37 win to get its season off and running, while Lancefield fell desperately short of a victory against Gisborne at home, losing 66-68.
Division two got underway on Saturday, but there was no luck for Broadford and Kilmore, who both ran into Kyneton’s dominant teams.
Broadford lost to Kyneton 73-38, while Kilmore was no match for Kyneton Golf, losing 80-43.
Romsey, in the meantime, took a solid win over Gisborne despite losing two rinks, scoring a 57-51 win.
Division three’s second round saw Kilmore come up short against Kyneton, losing 39-73, while Lancefield also fell to Trentham, losing 49-45. There was better news for Romsey, however, winning 62-49 over Woodend.
Kilmore’s division one team will make the trek to Gisborne this week for round three, while Broadford host Romsey. Lancefield will travel to Diggers Rest.
