The Seymour Riding for the Disabled (SRDA) club recently celebrated their new all-weather facility for all–ability horse riders and the new and improved lighting at their venue in Kings Park.

Minister for Sport Ros Spence officially announced the upgrades, noting that the improvements were made possible with financial contributions from the Government Local Sports Infrastructure fund and Mitchell Shire Council, and most importantly, the advocacy from the SRDA volunteers.

“These projects don’t just come about because we partner and put in money. They come about because volunteers who are onsite know what needs to be done to improve their facilities and they advocate, sometimes for a very long time,” she said.

Mitchell Shire Council Acting Mayor Councillor Nathan Clark said the improvements will enhance the important programs facilitated by dedicated volunteers and the new roof makes for an all-weather facility.

“This collaboration is a testament to what can be achieved when Government and local councils work together,” he said.

Club President Coral Cole said in the early days, the club operated from an old onsite caravan and said everyone had been so helpful, and thanked Mitchell Shire and its councillors Rhonda Sanderson and Bill Chisholm for the major improvement.

“We couldn’t have done this without the help of many, many people, and not just over the past 12 months. What you are seeing today has been dreamt, thought of and planned, and at long last executed,” she said.

Ms Cole also gave a special mention to the contractor James Anderson from Tallarook Sheds, and former secretary Sally Wilson for getting the project up and running.
