IT was a most competitive nine race program held at Kilmore trots last Thursday, September 17 with mixed results throughout the evening.
Junortoun trainer Larry Walls and ace reinsman James Herbertson opened the evening with 4YO Rock N Roll Heaven-Gallifrey Mystique gelding Assigned leading throughout to land the 1690 metre Next Payments Pace.
Rated to perfection, Assigned kicked clear on turning to record an easy seven-metre margin in advance of Dallas Cowboy (gate two second line – one/three – three wide last lap) which battled on extremely well, with Owen The Saints three pegs from inside the second line) using the sprint lane for third. The margins seven by 2.3 metres in a mile rate of 1.58.1.
Ex-Kiwi 5YO Ultimate Machete-Elva Jaccka gelding Jaccka Evan second up in Oz was a tough victor of the Tellurian Wines Pace over 1690 metres.
Trained at Strathfieldsaye by Glenn Douglas for inlaws Eric and Heather Anderson who have won numerous races with New Zealand imports over the years, Jaccka Evan, a first up winner at Wagga on September 4 was driven by Ellen Tormey who wasted no time in sending him forward from the extreme draw to race outside the pacemaker Atua Magic (gate two).
Showing plenty of heart on straightening, Jaccka Evan just got there by a head in a 1.54.9 mile rate from Royal Appointment (one/one from inside the second line) which looked a big chance on turning, with Followtheace (one/two – four wide home turn) 3.6 metres away third.
The OKRFM Mares Pace over 1690 metres saw Andy and Kate Gath bring up a double with 2YO Captaintreacherous-Perfect Life filly Teerdee outstaying her older rivals to gain the day.
Going forward from gate six to park outside Ali Hurleys speedy Spun Silver (gate five), Teerdee bred by Bruce and Craig Cameron and raced by a large syndicate was just a little too strong at the finish for Spun Silver by a head in a thrilling finish returning a mile rate of 1.59. Thereshewas (one/two from inside the second line) was third, three metres back.
Wallan owner/breeders Noel and Ruth Shinn used the services of evergreen Bolinda reinsman Chris Alford to narrowly snare the La Dimora Retirement Resort Pace over 2180 metres with Kutani, a 4YO gelded son of Always B Miki and Machli.
Sent forward from outside the front line to race outside the leader Cinquanta, Kutani did it tough but did well to register a head margin over Cinquanta in a 2.03.1 mile rate. Queenhighflush (four back in the running line – three wide last lap) was third 2.2 metres away.
There was a plethora of trotting races on the program, the first being the 1690 metre JC Windows Mobile taken out by Bolinda trainer Brent Lilley’s 5YO Skyvalley-Kyvalley Café mare which gave Alford a double.
Settling at the rear from the extreme draw, Kyvalley Misty, bred and raced by long time stable client Jim Connelly, was set alight three-wide from the rear, racing for the bell to join the poleline pacemaker Patnwill approaching the final bend and raced clear to win in a breeze 8.8 metres clear of Charlie Walker (gate three) which trailed the leader easing to be one/one on the home turn. Moonshine Louie (gate six) was a game third a half head back after sitting parked throughout. The mile rate was 2.01.
The 1690-metre Kilmore Ford Trotters Mobile went to Rushworth part-owner/trainer Donald Cross’ 5YO Aldebaran Eagle-Im Rite Or Wrong gelding Bet Bet Hotshot in a 2.01.2 rate.
Bottled up three pegs from gate three as the heavily backed Betsy Anne led from gate four, Bet Bet Hotshot was extricated three-wide approaching the home turn and dashed away shortly after to record a 3.6 metre margin over Macho Maori (one/one from gate five) which switched down to the sprint lane in the straight. Polemarker Tension Seeker (four pegs) was third 4.8 metres away.
Four-year-old Volstead-Par Ici mare Kitty Cash was victorious in the MC Labour Vicbred Voucher Trotters Mobile over 1690 metres. Trained at Iona in Gippsland by astute Michael Hughes for Cranbourne Club 21 Ltd, Kitty Cash went forward three-wide for Michael Bellman to cross I Am Harro (gate four) which had crossed Miss Kommunication (gate three) and without any pressure being applied, scored comfortably by 2.3 metres from Lord Logan (gate six) which was left exposed fighting on extremely well. Deejay Dex (one/two – three-wide on turning was third 9.3 metres away in a mile rate of 1.59.8.
The C&M Build Group Pace saw Henty trainer Brooke McPherson’s Volstead-Aldebaran Deebee 4YO gelding Aldebaran Denbay bring up two wins in succession at Kilmore after winning on September 3.
Driven by Ryan Sanderson who brought up a double on the night, Aldebaran Denbay led virtually throughout from gate four to account for The Chook (gate five – four pegs – death seat last lap) easily by 8.2 metres in a 2.03.7 mile rate. Flyin Time (gate three) which led out momentarily before trailing the winner was third 1.2 metres away.
Daylesford trainer/driver Anne-Maree Conroy landed the Picklebet ‘Get Your Pickle On’ Vicbred Voucher Mares Trotters Mobile over 2180 metres with the heavily supported Constant, an honest 7YO daughter of Bacardi Lindy and Efficacious.
Showing more speed than usual from gate three, Constant settled one/one as 16 start winner Champagnes led from gate six with Chantilly Lass sitting parked from outside the front line. Taking off early in the last lap to cruise up to the leader on the home turn, Constant recorded a strong six-metre victory In a 2.02.3 mile rate over Kimberleys Tree (four pegs from gate four after galloping away). Champagnes which had no excuses was third a head back and maybe feeling the effects of a long campaign.
Kilmore races again on Thursday.
