SAFE, clean and accessible public toilets are vital to ensuring people of all ages and abilities can confidently use and enjoy public spaces across the community.
At the June Council Meeting, the City of Whittlesea formally approved the updated Public Toilet Plan, which will guide the planning, design and provision of public toilets across the municipality.
The updated plan has been shaped by community feedback from surveys, pop-up sessions and targeted engagement, ensuring it reflects local needs and priorities.
Council currently manages around 50 public toilets across parks, playgrounds, reserves, community centres and other public spaces.
The plan provides a clear framework to guide future investment and decisions, including how upgrades and new facilities are prioritised and delivered.
Council will begin delivering public toilet infrastructure in alignment with the updated plan through a staged program of upgrades and new facilities.
City of Whittlesea Mayor Councillor Lawrie Cox said this would provide much-needed community support.
“Safe and accessible public toilets are essential to supporting an active and inclusive community,” he said.
“This plan has been shaped by our community, and I thank everyone who contributed their feedback to help guide its development.
“The Public Toilet Plan ensures our public spaces are welcoming, inclusive and accessible for everyone.”
