THE Macedon Ranges community is invited to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026 with two inspiring events recognising the achievements and voices of women.

Macedon Ranges Mayor Kate Kendall said: “International Women’s Day is a moment to celebrate the achievements of women in every field. These events highlight not only the inspiring voices shaping our now but also showcase the incredible talent we attract to our creative venues.”

This year’s theme, #BalanceTheScales, carries a simple but powerful promise: every woman and girl should be safe, heard and free to shape her own future.

Yet across Australia, many women and girls are still denied a fair go. Legal and economic inequality, harmful practices, gender-based violence and structural barriers continue to limit access to justice and opportunity. These barriers are not inevitable, they are built, and they can be dismantled.

To explore this year’s theme, the council will host two unique events at Kyneton Town Hall.

The first is The Deplorables, a joyous and uplifting musical theatre performance telling the story of two women’s teams playing cricket for the first time in Australia. The production celebrates courage, determination and the trailblazing women who challenged the status quo.

The show will be staged on Saturday, February 28, at 7.30pm. Tickets are almost sold out.

Celebrations will continue on Friday, March 13, at 7pm with Brave, Bonkers, and Brilliant – In Conversation with Kaz Cooke.

The author will share her insights on cutting through the noise of online advice, wellness fads, and social media pressure and everyday life challenges. From teenagers to career women, parents to those navigating menopause, the evening promises laughter, wisdom and practical guidance.

Cooke will be joined by creative strategist Anyez Lindop and will sign books following the event.

Community members are encouraged to come along and celebrate the stories, achievements and voices of women, both past and present.
