SEYMOUR trainer Melissa Page had wins at both ends of the racing spectrum during the week, winning both in the city and at the picnics. On Wednesday the form horse of her stable kicked another goal in winning at Sandown, giving Page her first city win. The six-year-old Mikki Isle gelding has now had three wins and two seconds from his last five starts, a tremendous run of form. On Saturday Page headed to Woolamai with the maiden galloper Dig For Victory, a three year old Churchill gelding having just his fourth raceday start and gaining what is hopefully the first of many victories.
Former Kilmore, now Seymour trainer Hannah Powell took Annotate across the border on Thursday to the meeting at Albury. The horse did extremely well to win the 1400 metre event having drawn barrier 14 and carrying 60.5 kg. Jockey Jake Duffy settled the horse a little worse than midfield during the running, then stormed home to win by nearly 1.5 lengths. The horse clearly has a liking for the Albury track, having finished in second place when he last raced there on December 13.
On Sunday at Wangaratta, Seymour trainer Charmaine Barnes was successful with Flying Awasita, a three year old Flying Artie filly having just her first raceday start. The filly showed plenty of speed and raced clear in the final stages, holding off a late challenge to cross the line first.
