RESIDENTS are invited to come together for a fun-filled morning to celebrate the official opening of the Murnong Community Centre, a major new hub designed to support people of all ages and abilities.
The opening event will take place on Saturday, February 21, from 9am to 11am at the new centre, located at 183W Olivine Boulevard, Donnybrook, and is free for the whole community to attend.
The celebration will begin with a smoking ceremony, followed by official speeches and a ribbon cutting, marking the formal opening of the long-anticipated facility. Families can enjoy a lively program of children’s activities, performances, face painting, and opportunities to connect with local organisations through information stalls showcasing services available in the area. Free coffee will also be available throughout the morning, adding to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The Murnong Community Centre has been purpose-built to meet the growing needs of Donnybrook’s expanding population. The modern facility includes two kindergarten rooms, two Maternal and Child Health Services consultation suites, and a mini-branch library, providing essential early years, health and learning services under one roof. The centre is expected to play a key role in fostering connection, wellbeing and lifelong learning within the community.
Construction of the centre was made possible through significant support from the Victorian Government. Funding included $4.5 million from the Building Blocks Capital Grants Program, $2 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, $709,500 from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, and $180,000 from the Changing Places Program, reflecting a strong investment in community infrastructure for Melbourne’s outer growth areas.
The opening event offers residents a chance to explore the new facility, meet service providers, and celebrate a milestone that will benefit Donnybrook for years to come. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and be part of this important local celebration.
