RESIDENTS around the City of Whittlesea have had a big boost to their travels in recent times with the completion of the Epping Road/High Street upgrade.
All lanes are now open from Memorial Avenue to Craigieburn Road East after work was completed on the four-kilometre stretch of road in December.
The works have also finished on schedule, an impressive effort given more than 70,000 tonnes of material was removed, including soil and asphalt, before being placed over 200,000 tonnes of materials.
The construction of the road has also benefited pedestrians and cyclists, with shared-use paths open between Lyndarum Drive and Craigieburn Road East, improvements for five key intersections, traffic lights at Park Street and upgraded pedestrian traffic lights at Epping Road.
Crews have also installed 6.8 kilometres of guardrail and planted 102,000 native plants along the road.
Finishing works will continue over the next few months, with motorists expected to encounter temporary land and side road closures.
A Big Build Roads spokesperson said it was a huge accomplishment for Epping.
“Opening all lanes on Epping Road marks a major milestone for Melbourne’s north, delivering safer, smoother journeys for thousands of drivers every day,” they said.
“This upgrade not only more than doubles road capacity but also strengthens local connections for pedestrians and cyclists, supporting our commitment to a more accessible and sustainable transport network.”
