A LOCAL group of crafty quilters absolutely wowed the judges at the prestigious Victorian Quilters Showcase (VQS) Exhibition awards last month as the theme Reduce, Reuse and Recycle resonated with its competitors!
The Kilmore Quilters entered a project that showcased their ability to design and create a beautiful quilt that could last a life time; Collective tidings was awarded First prize in the group quilts category at the VQS.
The quilters individual efforts were also highly regarded.
Wendy Blyth’s Hearts Galore won the Excellence award in appliqué and also runner Up Best of Show The striking quilt also won first prize in the Two Person Traditional Appliqué professional category as it was quilted by Rhonda Coates.


Lancefield’s A Patch of Lancefield’s quilting collective member Chris Treseder entered Joan’s Joy, much of its fabric came from an outdoor setting once owned by Joy. The very large quilt was awarded First prize in appliqué and piecing amateur, and even the Bernina Amateur Encouragement Award!
Heather Shepherd’s entries were also highly regarded.


Bright Flowers won first prize in Appliqué Traditional two person amateur, and Who Chose These Colours was awarded runner up in the two-person amateur and professional category, both quilted by Jenny Gibson.
Notably, Trish Stuart’s Scraptacular Stars was awarded first prize in First Time Entrant Amateur.
President Rhonda Coates said some of the award winning quilts will be on display at the upcoming Quilt, Sit, and Sew event on Saturday, October 11 between 10am and 4pm at the Soldiers Memorial Hall, Sydney Street and there will be five pop up retail stalls to buy supplies from or to gather up some experts advise on how to begin your new hobby!
Entry Tickets are just $10, which includes morning and afternoon tea.
What’s exciting is that Collective Tidings is the first raffle prize while second prize is a stand of threads, and third prize is a magnifying work lamp.
Raffle Tickets are just $5 each and these are available to buy from the group’s members and also from London Mart at 52 Sydney Street, Kilmore.
