RESIDENTS will have a chance to dispose of excess packaging responsibly, with a free recycling collection event scheduled for Wednesday July 23.

The event, hosted by Whittlesea City Council, will be held at the Olivine Recreation Reserve car park from 11am to 1pm. Locals are encouraged to bring along cardboard boxes, soft plastic packaging and polystyrene from new furniture for recycling.

To be accepted, items must meet specific requirements. Cardboard boxes must be broken down, soft plastics from food products or furniture must be clean, dry and completely free of food residue and polystyrene packaging must also be clean, with all tape removed.

Only these items will be accepted on the day, with Council advising that other forms of waste will not be taken.

For those unable to attend, alternatives are available. Cardboard and soft plastics can be dropped off for free at Heidelberg Materials, 55 Bridge Inn Road, Wollert. Polystyrene can be taken to Foamex Coolaroo, 430 Barry Road, Coolaroo.

Council is reminding residents to dispose of waste responsibly and to consult the A–Z Waste and Recycling Guide for information at www.whittlesea.vic.gov.au on how to handle other items.

The event is part of ongoing efforts to reduce landfill and encourage better recycling habits across the municipality.
