WALLAN’S women’s team bounced back into the Big V competition, while the Panthers’ men will be looking to up their game and their ladder position.
The Panthers’ men’s team sunk to eighth position on the division two ladder after a loss to Southern Peninsula Sharks at Rosebud Stadium on the weekend.
The Panthers played an exceptionally tight game, and yet Jon Bailey’s 35 points and William Stewart’s 17 could not get them over the line when it came to the Sharks tenacity to win, they saw the final break arrive in their favour by 5-points, 101- 96.
Next week the Panthers take another trip, this time heading North West to play at the Mildura Hothouse against Mildura who are third on the ladder.
Wallan’s women had a win against the Southern Peninsula Sharks 47 – 63.
Wallan made a strong start, winning defensive rebounds and surging plenty of the ball to their scoring end to take the Sharks by surprise. Wallan’s captain, Emma Gardiner scored the most points 19, and the most rebounds for the team, 21.
Ranika Guyton sat close behind the captain on 18 points, and the much-needed win has boosted the women to third on the ladder.
Next week they travel to Coburg Basketball Stadium to play the Coburg Giants.
Wallan’s Youth League men were defeated by the Altona Gators at the Altona Sports centre by a narrow 13-points, 86-73.
Kaleb Graham shot 17 points for the club and Luke Cairns listed 16.
Wallan’s Youth League women went down to the Chelsea Gulls at the Patterson River Secondary Basketball courts losing 59-69.
Olivia Sweet put 16 points up for the club, while Chloe Mott and Tahlia Onley each contributed 12.
Next week, the youth league teams play much closer to home, against Craigieburn Eagles at Craigieburn Sports Stadium.
