The Seymour We Want association held their AGM earlier this month and hope the local community will come to them with idea’s for the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub as new office bearers were elected and all executive positions have been filled for the coming years advocacy program.

In the first instance The Seymour We Want (TSWW) committee are liaising with Mitchell Shire Council (MSC) and their stakeholders to ensure developments around the hub have a community focus.

It is hoped the hub will give up to 10,000 people access to integrated health and mental health support.

As reported by MSC previously in the Review, the hub has received $15 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Growing Regions Program, and $2 million from MSC.

Manager of Community Projects Greg Drake attended the AGM and made an announcement that there will be one last community consultation in July.

“Keep your eyes out for this opportunity to shape this important project,” he reported.

The budget for the hub likely remains at $17 million as no other funding sources have been made available.

With fresh governance, the committee aims to aims to restart their electronic calendar of events and to continue to keep atop the Anzac Avenue underpass mural ongoing maintenance requirements.

The TSWW committee endorsed Michael Easton as their President, and Michael Coffey as Vice President, while Irene Telford has secured the Treasury role and Carolyn Mowat is Secretary. The meeting also included a special thankyou to their dedicated members, especially Pat Coffey after her resignation.

Mrs Telford warmly invites all who want to join the committee to purchase an annual membership for $10.

“Our work is limited only by the number of volunteers we have,” she said.

“To help Seymour become an even better place to live become a member.

“We have four weeks to go before we can have our say on the Seymour Community Hub, let’s make it count.”

The general committee members are Richard Telford, and their newest is Barb Walker.

Ms Walker is the Business Relationship Officer with The Centre Community College at Seymour for individuals to enrol in courses including food safety, first aid and disability support.

What’s more is they have some pre-TAFE courses for learners choosing to enter or become more qualified in a specified trade or industry.

A highlight is their community garden and Food Share project established in conjunction with a number of groups including Healthy Kids Mitchell.

“The garden helps reduce isolation and loneliness in our communities,” Ms Walker said.
