THE Salvation Army thrift shop in Broadford is a hub for volunteers to create affordable shopping for us all at 25-27 Powlett Street, Broadford.

Shop weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9am and 4pm for new and used toys, household items, books, bric-a-brac and winter fashion.

There’s also a stigma-free self-serve food share or swap station.

On the first Saturday of the month, weather permitting, between 10am and 1pm there will be a sausage sizzle and second-hand furniture sale and clothes will be discounted to $5 a bag.

Every little bit helps

If you or someone you know is doing it tough, there’s a women’s only bible study group running on Wednesdays and a women’s only friendship group on Thursdays.

Fortnightly, there is a sit-down hot meal for men.

Broadford Captain Lauren Kirkham said the regular occasions help decrease loneliness.

“There is no cost for these activities,” she said.

“We are combating isolation for these people.”

Furniture and food can be donated by arrangement, and volunteers are always welcome she added.

The Wallan Salvation Army thrift shop is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm and on Saturday 9am to 5pm at 1/140 High Street, Wallan, while The Seymour Salvation Army is also open Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm and on Saturday 9am to 5pm at 8/10 Victoria Street, Seymour.
