Seymour Performers Workshop is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s beloved story of adventure, magic, and delectable dreams.
Opening in May at the Seymour College Arts Centre, this production promises to be a spectacular family-friendly event, filled with vibrant characters, unforgettable songs, and a sprinkling of imagination.
The classic tale follows young Charlie Bucket as he embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure when he wins a coveted Golden Ticket to tour the eccentric Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
With colourful characters and a touch of Dahl’s unique whimsy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a heartwarming journey through a world of candy, mystery, and moral lessons.
Featuring an original score composed by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) and a book by David Greig, the score also pays homage to the Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley score from the 1971 film with songs from the motion picture including “Candy Man”, “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket”, “Oompa Loompa Song” and “Pure Imagination.”
This production brings together a talented local cast and crew who have worked tirelessly to bring the magical world of Willy Wonka to life.
The team has gone above and beyond to create a visually stunning set, dazzling costumes, and thrilling performances.
The cast will feature Livani Palmer as Charlie Bucket, alongside Robert Kemp in the iconic role of the quirky chocolatier himself.
Livani and Robert are joined by a cast of 39 other performers including a merry band of Oompa Loompas.
“Bringing this story to the stage has been a true joy for all of us,” says Director Peter Read.
“It’s a timeless story that still resonates with audiences of all ages, reminding us of the importance of kindness, patience, and believing in the impossible. We can’t wait for families to come and experience the magic of Willy Wonka’s factory right here in Seymour.”
