EARLIER this month, the Community Bank Wallan, Kilmore, and Broadford made a promise to the community. To celebrate International Women’s Day, they would make a donation for every participant who walked the Community Bank Walking Trail in Kilmore.
These donations would go towards two local organisations that were supporting women in the Mitchell Shire: The SEED Project (Brotherhood of St Laurence), and Zonta Club of Mitchell.
In just one hour, hundreds of local families, clubs, and organisations came together in solidarity, resulting in a donation of almost $5000 to support women in need.
The sizeable donation will allow the following activities and projects to receive much-needed funding:
Dignity bags, that contain essential toiletries for women in crisis
Financial wellbeing mentoring and workshops
Trauma distraction kits for children
Empowerment programs
Breast-care cushions for post-surgery recovery
Community connections to support services and networks
Mental health first aid
Domestic violence support
The event was a fantastic opportunity for the community to appreciate how banking with the Community Bank Wallan, Kilmore, and Broadford can make a real difference in the shire. The donations were part of the bank’s community investment initiative, which has now contributed more than $4.6 million in funding to the area.
Community Bank Wallan Suellyn thanked all those who attended the event and walked in support of the international day of recognition.
“Our event ‘Step Forward’ for International Women’s Day was a fantastic celebration of strength, unity, and community spirit,” she said.
“Thank you to everyone who joined us in making it such a special day! By supporting Community Bank Wallan, Kilmore, and Broadford … you’re helping us give back to the community, making events like this possible!”.
