The bypass needs your support, Rob

Dear Editor,

I read Rob Mitchell’s letter in the Review and wondered why he spends so much time criticising other people, but does not offer to do something himself.

As the Wallan-Kilmore Bypass has been reported in the Review, this project has been promised by politicians for more than 30 years and is stagnating from their lack of action.

To make things worse, Rob’s support for the western route is not helping. The bypass needs to go east from the Northern Highway to the Hume. The western route is longer and much more expensive to build and maintain, and would result in higher freight costs being passed on to the consumer.

I would suggest to Rob that he liaise with our State Premier to make money available to fund this much-needed project.

Grants now open

Dear Editor,

I am pleased to announce round nine of the Stronger Communities Grant Program is now open for expressions of interest (EOI) from community groups.

The Stronger Communities Programme supports the Australian Government’s commitment to deliver social benefits in communities across Australia by funding projects in each of the 151 federal electorates.

The program provides grants for community projects to strengthen and benefit local communities and is part of the government’s 2024-25 budget initiatives.

Round nine of the program will run through to December 31, 2025. With $150,000 to be distributed across the electorate of McEwen, I encourage eligible community groups to take advantage of this opportunity.

Round nine of the program aims to support projects that provide social benefits for local communities. This round of funding will be up to 100 per cent of eligible project costs except for local governments, where grant funding will be up to 50 per cent of eligible project costs.

The minimum grant amount is $2500, the maximum is $20,000 and the maximum cost of the project cannot exceed $50,000.

I encourage all community groups with projects they believe will add social capital to our community to study the guidelines for eligibility and complete an EOI.

An email has been forwarded to community groups this week, but if you have not received one, please contact my office on 5716 3000 or email rob.mitchell.mp@aph.gov.au.
