This year’s group of young golfers have now completed their Junior Golf Scholarships at Kilmore Golf Club (KGC). Presented with their certificates at a special award event recently, the girls will continue as full junior members and will be offered a special discount to encourage them to continue their journey.

During this year’s coaching sessions, the players learnt all the key golf strokes—how to drive the golf ball from the tee and chip onto the green, fairway drives, and of course, putting into the hole.

Importantly, they also learnt the rules and etiquette of golf, enabling them to play with all ages in social and club competitions.

The scholarship program aims to introduce young girls to golf or retain their participation in golf by giving them a shared golf experience with others of a similar age. KGC members will now encourage these young golfers to further develop their skills and enjoy their golf with others at the club, organising small group golf sessions during the term and encouraging competitive play in club competitions during school holidays.

Excitedly, the scholarships will return in 2025, with KGC recently obtaining funding from the Australian Golf Foundation (AGF).

The program supports young girls aged 9–16 years to pursue golf, with six scholarships up for grabs.

Coordinator Helen Dennett encouraged young golfers to get involved.

“This is a terrific opportunity for young girls to improve their golf skills or try golf for the first time,” she said.

Scholarship recipients will receive 24 coaching sessions with golfing professional Jessica Boyce. They will also receive a one year Junior Membership at KGC, and a shirt and cap designating their scholarship status.

Applicants need to show a desire to develop their golfing skills and a willingness to engage in the scholarship group’s activities.

The 2025 coaching sessions will be held on Saturdays during school terms at KGC in Anderson Street, Kilmore.
