Local MPs are calling on the State Government to support the Whittlesea Men’s Shed.
With around 70 members, the group recently applied for the State Government’s Men’s Shed Funding Program 2024–25 for a grant of almost $45,000 to extend the shed to accommodate a larger machine workshop.
Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell expressed her support for the application, calling on Minister for Carers and Volunteers Ros Spence to closely consider the application’s merits in a recent sitting of parliament.
“Whittlesea Men’s Shed is an important community organisation doing terrific work to reduce social isolation and bring men together,” she said.
“I fully support their worthy application for grant funding. I urge the minister to give close consideration to their funding request, and support members of the Whittlesea Men’s Shed by approving their grant application to extend their shed and continue their fantastic work.”
Liberal candidate for McEwen Jason McClintock echoed Ms Lovell’s sentiments, stating that the shed provided a critical space for social interaction.
“Mental health is a growing concern for men, and it is critically important to support Men’s Sheds because they provide a vital safe space where men can freely discuss their mental health struggles and get support from their peers,” he said.
