Kilmore held another fine meeting on Thursday, October 10 with mixed results during the evening.
Local trainer Rita Burnett combined with daughter Monique to land the C & M Build Group 3Y0 Maiden Pace over 2180 metres with Miki Mark, a daughter of Always B Miki and Dolly Jasper raced by breeders Russell Hockham and the estate of his late wife Pam.
Enjoying a cosy trip three back in the moving line from gate four on the second line, Miki Mark was sent forward three wide solo in the last lap to lead on the final bend and register a solid 2.4 metre victory over Lady Salina (one/three) which followed the winner all the way. Fullofflight three wide last lap from the rear was third 14.5 metres back. The mile rate 2-00.1.
Not to be outdone, sister-in-law Julie Mifsud was also a winner when 6Y0 Blissful Hall-Modern Mary’s mare Our Arabella scored in the 1690 metre Buds & Branches Florist Pace. Driven by Julie’s husband Austin (Rita’s brother), Our Arabella travelled nicely three back in the running line from the extreme draw as Nifty Jolt led from gate three.
Angling three wide on the final bend after Joeys Hangover after racing exposed from outside the front line had taken care of the leader with Home And Dry challenging, Our Arabella finished best to prevail by 2.6 metres at odds of $26.00 from Home And Dry with The Interceptor after trailing the weakening leader and easing wide on turning third 2.7 metres away. The mile rate 1-59.8.
Myrniong reinsman Greg Sugars was responsible for being the leading driver on the night after taking the 2180 metre TAB Pace with Sportswriter-Way Mya Macray’s filly Writteninthesky raced by trainer wife Jess Tubbs in partnership with mother Caitlyn.
Leading out from gate four, Writteninthesky was rated to perfection and never looked like losing, scoring by 3.8 metres from Ima Denny Too which raced exposed before dropping to the winners back on the home turn and fighting on well, with Luna Dream (three pegs) third after angling around Caledonian Terra (second on the markers) approaching the final bend. The mile rate 1-59.5.
Greg brought up a driving double after 6Y0 Somebeachsomewhere-Joe Louleone’s gelding Somebeachdreamin trained by employee David Punch snared the Hip Pocket Workwear Pace over 1690 metres. Crossing the leader Upright which flew away from outside the front line running into the first turn, Somebeachdreamin (gate two) led for the majority of the journey, accounting for Archaa (one/two—three wide trail last lap) which appeared to be floundering prior to the home turn before rallying in the straight, with Ozzie Joybell (one four) running on late for third. The margins 1.9 metres by a half neck in a mile rate of 1-59.9
Charlton based duo Michael Gadsden (trainer) and Luke Dunne (driver) landed the 2180 MC Security Cranbourne 10,000 Pace with Bizzness Class, a 5Y0 gelded son of Bling It On and Angel In Flight raced by Mildura HRC President Allan (Pud) McDonald.
Bizzness Classs restrained to the rear from gate five as polemarker Caledonian Ranger led. Gaining a three wide trail two back in the last lap on the back of both Belittled (one/three) and Can Feel The Fury (one/two), Bizzness Class, despite angling four wide on turning, finished his race off well to blouse Can Feel The Fury which had led on turning by a head, with Credulous (three pegs) using the sprint lane for third 1.1 metres back. The mile rate 2-00.7.
Maree and John Caldow chalked up their second winner in consecutive days when Roll With Joe-Indigo Smile’s filly Midnight Mojo bred and raced by Don and Robyn McKenzie scored in the Happy 50th Birthday Gordon Caddie Pace over 1690 metres.
Going forward from gate five to park outside the pacemaker Atomic Glory, Midnight Mojo was revved up to cross the leader racing for the bell as Herbi had set Nai Harn Bay alight to race clear for the final circuit, allowing Midnight Mojo to receive a breather on his back.
Making full use of the sprint lane, Midnight Mojo finished best to gather in Nai Harn Bay over the concluding stages, with Our Cheeky Devi third after being left exposed from the bell. The margins 2.6 by 6.7 metres in a mile rate of 1-56.7.
The Jet Roofing Trotters Mobile over 1690 saw Gisborne breeder/owner/trainer Don Lock’s 7Y0 Majestic Son-Genayas Girl’s gelding Rymes produce an outstanding performance to win.
Galloping before despatch point from gate two on the second line, Rymes gave away a tidy start before settling last along the markers as speedy gelding Fling It Rainbow led from gate three for Chris Alford. Making ground swiftly in the last lap to make the final bend four wide, Rimes ran away from his rivals in the straight to register a 2.6 metre margin from Captain Graywood along the sprint lane after trailing the pacemaker.
April Sun (one/two—three wide last lap) was third after challenging Fling It Rainbow in the last lap a head away. The mile rate 2-02.
Kialla trainer/driver Stephen (Boyo) Boyington’s 5Y0 Love You-My Valerie’s gelding Kings Guard was a well deserved winner of the 2180 metre Beraldo Coffee Trotters Mobile. Settling close handy from gate six as the favourite Mister Blindside and Whos The Man duelled for the lead with Mister Blindside going off stride shortly after causing a number of runners to be checked, Kings Guard had moved forward to be poised one/one for the final circuit after Whos The Man had assumed control.
Easing three wide before the final bend, Kings Guard was too strong over the concluding stages for Call Be Jack (three pegs—one/one last lap), with Quake Proof coming from a long way back for third. The margins 3.9 by 5.9 metres in a mile rate of 2-02.7.
Allandale owner/trainer Adam Stephens, who has enjoyed his best season ever, was successful with very reliable 7Y0 Somebeachsomewhere-Blue Seelster’s gelding Icanmotor in the 1690 metre O’Brien Electrical Pace, scoring by a tight margin of a half head in a mile rate of 2-01.3.
Driven by James Herbertson, Icanmotor, starting from gate six, was restrained to settle five back in the moving line as polemarker Amber Alert led for Matt Newberry.
Trailing Topzavski (one/three) home three wide in the last lap, Icanmotor did exactly that on turning to nab a death-seating Jersey Sam in the last stride, with Amber Alert battling on gamely for third 8.6 metres back.
*** Kilmore will race again Thursday, October 24.
