Macedon Council recently held the 2024 Josh’s Rainbow Eggs Macedon Ranges Business Excellence Awards (MRBEA) at the Mount Macedon Winery, with local personality Shane Jacobson as the Master of Ceremonies.
Macedon Council’s bi-annual awards night recognises businesses offering outstanding service to the shire and beyond, as well as those that add value to the community by providing local jobs, services, and supplies.
Backman Builders of Kyneton were awarded in three categories, including Business of the Year, Excellence in Manufacturing, Trades, Retail, and Innovation, and the Champion of Social, Environmental, or Sustainability Principles.
A total of 42 businesses entered this year’s awards, with 25 finalists chosen by a panel of independent judges, and all the finalists were also eligible for the People’s Choice award.
Matthew Bacon is the owner of Gisborne cafe 3 Little Pigs, and 560 public votes confirmed the cafe the People’s Choice.
Mr Bacon said it was a thrill to win the award.
“Being involved in the community has been one of the unforeseen benefits of having the cafe,” he said.
“In the 10 plus years we have had the cafe, we have had, and continue to have, some amazing customers and employees.
“We love being a part of this amazing community and to win this award was certainly a thrill. I have always worked in hospitality. Mainly large hotels, but with my love of coffee and food, the idea of owning our own place had always been a desire.”
