Mitchell Shire Council is urging pet owners to get their pets desexed and take advantage of their ongoing desexing offer.
Eligible pet owners can save $65 off the total cost to desex their cat or dog at the Wallan Vet Clinic and Seymour Central Vet Clinic.
Mitchell Shire Acting Mayor Nathan Clark said desexing is not only good for pets’ health, but can reduce the number of unwanted animals in the community.
It’s a relatively simple surgery that has a number of additional benefits, including less aggressive behaviours and less roaming.
“One of our goals is to reduce the number of stray animals in Mitchell Shire. Our desexing promotion is a proactive measure to prevent overpopulation and the issues that come with it,” he said.
At Mitchell Shire Council, all cats and dogs over 3 months old must be microchipped and registered with Council, and to be eligible for the desexing offer, pets must be registered with the Council and vaccinations must be up to date. Only concession card holders are eligible for the discounted rate, with a maximum of two vouchers to be issued per eligible household.
