Assumption College Kilmore student Felix Cameron has been nominated for two Logie Awards for his role as Eli Bell in the Australian Netflix series Boy Swallows Universe.
Set to air on Sunday, August 18, the annual awards night aims to recognise and celebrate the best shows and stars in Australian television, with 23 nomination categories.
Based on Australian author Trent Dalton’s 2018 debut novel, Boy Swallows Universe follows the story of a dysfunctional family in the trenches of drugs, poverty, and crime in 1980s Brisbane.
Focusing heavily on how protagonist and youngest child of the family Eli Bell navigates his complicated, atypical life, the story is said to be a ‘semi-autobiography’ of Mr Dalton’s own childhood.
The adaptation aired in January this year on major international streaming service Netflix, capturing the hearts of millions worldwide – specifically 7.6 million in its first two weeks.
The show has received 10 Logie nominations in total, including Felix’s impressive nominations for Most Popular New Talent and Best Lead Actor in a Drama.
Though Felix noted he was excited about the nominations, the humble star stated he was equally excited to catch up with missed castmates.
“I was pretty surprised and super happy [to receive the nominations]. But I’m most excited to catch up with some of the cast again,” he said.
“It was pretty amazing to work with the actors I got to work with and the crew every day. The role was pretty crazy with so much script, crying scenes, fight scenes, and lots of fun stunt work.”

While the young actor makes the craft seem effortless, viewers of the show may be surprised to learn that Felix had not always wanted to be an actor and found the audition process for his second film to be ‘intense’.
“I come from a creative family so have been around acting, but funnily enough I never aspired to be an actor,” he said.
“A general audition came up for Penguin Bloom and they were looking for young active boys and so I decided to give it a go not expecting anything, but instead found myself getting the role of Rueben Bloom.
“[Boy Swallows Universe] was a very intense audition process, and I never could have imagined playing the role of Eli Bell. But in the final audition I realised I would really enjoy this role, so I was excited when I got it.
“I just want to do jobs that make me happy and have interesting stories. Acting isn’t the be-all and end-all for me, so a job has to be something I want to do.”
Outside of acting, Felix is looking forward to some simpler adolescent pleasures and is eagerly anticipating some much-wanted warmer weather.
“I’m most looking forward to playing some cricket, hanging with friends, and the cold weather ending,” he said.
