A new Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) drop-off point is now available for use at Kilmore Village.

Officially opened last Wednesday, the new Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) brings the total number of drop-off points in the town to three.

Other locations include a depot operated by Envirobank available at 127A Northern Highway, and an over-the-counter drop-off point available at Willira Heating, Cooling and Electrical, 104 Powlett Street.

Operated by not-for-profit organisation VicReturn, CDS Vic forms part of the State Government’s $515 million investment to transform Victoria’s waste and recycling sector. The initiative hopes to divert 80 per cent of landfill by 2030.

Eligible empty bottles and cans can be exchanged for a 10-cent refund via a Woolworths voucher, cash, donation, or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).

Member for Northern Victoria Jacyln Symes celebrated the RVM’s installation, stating its prime location meant easy access for all.

“The Kilmore community now has multiple options to return their cans and bottles for a 10c refund thanks to the Allan Labor Government’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), with a new Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) located at Kilmore Village that is fully automated,” she said.

“This [drop-off point offers] the best access for the Kilmore and surrounding community to the Victorian Government’s Container Deposit Scheme.”

Keen-eyed residents have also spotted the installation of another RVM at Wandong, with its official date of opening yet to be determined but set for sometime this week.
