WHITTLESEA Historical Society (WHS) held its My Kitchen Table Talk event in the old Wollert Uniting Church at the historic Carome Homestead in Mernda last month.

Under the roof of the beautifully restored old building, tables were set out for attendees to place their old, treasured kitchen items that were used in times gone by and to reminisce family memories of occasions.

During the time of audience participation, WHS heard several significant stories and reminiscence, and in some cases, had trouble guessing the purpose of some items such as an eclectic collection displayed.

A set of scales, which was used to weigh a baby at home, was an item hard to recognise at the event.

A raffle was drawn, and the society wished to thank the Whittlesea Bowls Club, The Good Guys Thomastown, and Willow House and Décor for their generosity in donating the prizes.

The day was concluded at Carome with more conversations and shared memories during a delicious afternoon tea of coffee and cake in the homestead.

WHS thanked all who brought items to show, as well as participated, discussed, and answered questions to how things used to be in the ‘good old days.’

The Society’s thanks also extends to Carome for allowing WHS to hold a most enjoyable event in such a pleasing setting.
