Two Mitchell Shire Councillors have called for a community based committee of management to be established for Kilmore’s Monument Hill Reserve.

Councillors were considering the adoption of the management plan for the Reserve when both Councillors Chisholm and Clark put forward the suggestion of a management committee with community members as major players.

“Monument Hill is a special place in the Kilmore community, it is there for use by all,” Cr Clark said.

“I hope that sometime in the future we establish a committee of management for the Reserve, with locals taking a more active role in its management,” Cr Clark added.

Cr Chisholm said that the feedback provided by the community provided excellent input into the final management plan.

“I agree with Cr Clark that a community based committee of management would be most welcome,” Cr Chisholm said.

Cr Rhonda Sanderson also welcomed the community feedback and thanked members of the community who provided input into the final plan.

The draft management plan was presented to the February 2024 Council meeting. At that meeting, Councillors endorsed the release of the draft plan for community consultation until March 22, 2024.

The Reserve is a 76-hectare parcel of crown land, for which Mitchell Shire Council is the appointed Committee of Management under Section 14 of the Crown Land Reserves Act 1978.
