Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland has raised concerns over Telstra’s outages in Kilmore, saying it will have a major impact on local businesses and households.

Last week, Telstra announced that they would be shutting down its mobile base station in Kilmore from Monday, May 13 to Friday, May 17.

All of Telstra’s 3G, 4G, and 5G services will be offline in the area during this time, while landline services, NBN, triple zero services, and mobile coverage from other providers are set to remain operational.

Ms Cleeland heard from several concerned residents when the outages were announced and reached out to Telstra for a response.

“Local businesses are already doing it tough, and this is just making things more difficult,” she said.

“With this outage set to prevent certain EFTPOS machines from working, local business owners have already reached out to me to ask what they should be doing.

“Parents have also reached out, worried that they will be uncontactable by preschools, kinders, or schools in case of emergency.

“I’ve written to Telstra asking for a ‘please explain’ about how the entire town can be left without coverage for an entire week, and what they can do to help alleviate some of the issues locals will be facing.”
