Mernda’s Northern Football Netball League, NFNL, division three campaign got off to a rough start on Saturday with an away loss to Old Eltham Collegians.

Although it was only eight points the difference by the final siren, the Turtles’ scoreline was defined by inaccurate scoring and missed opportunities as they finished with nine goals and 16 behinds.

Mernda also chalked up nine goals, with the difference in the scoreline created by its eight behinds for the match.

Elsewhere, Epping defeated Lalor in a convincing 15.17 (107) to 8.8 (56) victory on Good Friday, while Kinglake went down in a 28-point loss to the Fitzroy Stars on Saturday.

Mernda will this weekend host Heidelberg West at Waterview Reserve, while Epping is at home against Eltham and Lalor travels to Thornbury to play the Fitzroy Stars.

Kilmore will return from a bye this weekend to host Reservoir, a match the Blues will enter with high hopes following the visitor’s loss to Ivanhoe in round one.
