Edgar’s Mission sanctuary celebrates Giving Tuesday

Edgar’s Mission animal sanctuary in Lancefield is calling on the community to join in for Giving Tuesday, a global movement of generosity set for November 29.

Launched in 2012, Giving Tuesday is aimed at creating a day that encourages people to do good and is now a global movement that encourages people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Edgar’s Mission operations manager Kyle Behrend said the sanctuary had benefitted from the power of people’s generosity.

“For almost 20 years, Edgar’s Mission has seen the transformative power of kindness in both animals and people,” he said.

“The only reason we can [do what we do] is because of caring people who share our belief that a kinder world is not only possible, it’s on the way.”

Kid goats Peeky and Perky were rescued by the sanctuary after they were orphaned earlier this year, and Mr Behrend said it wasn’t long before they caught the attention of Edgar’s Mission’s caregivers, visitors and online followers.

The sanctuary has reached 542 million people on social media over the past year through sharing stories of every animal they save.

“It is through this that we give a voice to the millions upon millions of farmed animals who will never know kindness,” Mr Behrend said.

“With every story told, like that of Perky and Peeky, hearts and minds across the globe are being transformed while we inch every closer towards a kinder world for animals.”

To celebrate their fourth Giving Tuesday fundraiser, the sanctuary’s goal is to raise $100,000, which represents half of their annual food and bedding costs.
