Lancefield Football Netball Club can now play and train during the day or at night, after upgraded oval lighting was switched on earlier this month.
The Lancefield Park upgrade, funded by the State Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, featured four new lighting towers with 100 lux lighting to provide better flexibility for the 530 members of the Tigers’ junior and senior clubs.
The park is also expected to now host more events at night such as markets and community events, including Lancefield Agricultural Show, Lancefield Swap Meet and Macedon Ranges Relay for Life.
Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas said the upgrade would help boost participation in the club.
“For too long clubs like the Tigers have been left in the dark due to outdated lighting facilities – they deserve appropriate facilities they can be proud of,” she said.
“The upgraded sports lighting at Lancefield Park provides a real incentive for local clubs to ramp up training and development and for locals to join in the fun.”
Macedon Ranges Shire Council contributed $64,000 to help fund the project, as well as $50,000 from the clubs and Lancefield community.
