Power saving bonus to bust energy bills

Popular Stories

People can now claim a $250 bill busting bonus if looking for a better energy deal through the State Government’s Energy Compare website.

Opening today, the Power Saving Bonus provides a bonus for people looking for a better energy bill and builds on the existing bonus program which was previously available to eligible concession card holders.

People who previously claimed the Power Saving Bonus are also able to claim the new payment, saving some households up to $580 each. The bonus will be available for the next 12 months, with no limit to the number of households that can receive payment.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Action Lily D’Ambrosio said the payment would support a transition to cleaner energy.

“This is about helping Victorian families now, while we keep building on our investment in renewable energy,” she said.

“[We’re] creating thousands of jobs and giving every single Victorian a fairer power bill.”

Households can claim the $250 payment by using the Victorian Energy Compare website and comparing their current energy bills to find a better deal.

Data suggests that seven out of every 10 users can save money by switching energy deals, with typical savings of $330 on energy bills in the first year of switching and up to $580 a year when combined with the bonus.

To apply and for more information, visit compare.energy.vic.gov.au.

People who do not have access to a computer or the internet can receive support by calling the Victorian Energy Compare helpline on 1800 000 832.

Other programs to help save on energy bills include Victorian Energy Upgrades, providing incentives for energy efficient products, and separately Solar Victoria, offering discounted solar panels, batteries and efficient heating and cooling.
