Join our award-winning media company based in Kilmore. We currently print two mastheads, the North Central Review and Whittlesea Review, and have an ever-growing demand to file digital content. 

Reporting to the General Manager/Editor, you will be part of a team of journalists reporting on issues, events and sport across the Mitchell Shire, Macedon Ranges and City of Whittlesea.

This full-time role involves writing news, sport and feature stories that lead the news agenda in our region and engage our local communities. 

Work for an independent media company that creates a strong foundation for journalists who want career progression, while working in a great community, all within close proximity to Melbourne.

Main duties:

• Write content to cover news and sport, generate stories to engage our readership, while meeting all deadlines and adhering to our established newspaper style.

• Uphold strong editorial standards and present all stories in a factual and unbiased manner.

• Taking high quality and engaging photographs.

• Engage with and generate reliable sources in the community.

• Create content for our digital and social media.

Required skills:

• Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and listening.

• Strong writing skills, with ability to convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner with correct use of context and grammar.

• High-level organisational skills and self-motivation.

• Able to work a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend work. 

• Experience in writing content for digital and social media accounts. 

• Current, valid driver’s licence.

Key selection criteria:

  1. Possess strong news and editorial judgement.
  2. Demonstrated experience in creating content for print and digital platforms.
  3. Sound research and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  4. Excellent organisational skills to manage competing priorities and work in order to complete tasks at an appropriate standard and meet strict deadlines.
  5. Ability to build relationships with a diverse range of contacts.
