Drink driver
Mernda police intercepted a driver who went through a red light in Wollert at about 5am on April 1.
The driver was breath-tested and returned a positive test. A further test revealed the driver’s breath alcohol was recorded at 0.102 – more than two times the legal limit.
The Mernda man, 25, had his licence immediately suspended for 10 months. He was also fined $1226 and lost three demerit points.
Police find drugs and weapon
A man has been charged after police located drugs and a weapon during a Firearm Prohibition Order, FPO, compliance search on a patched member of the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang in South Morang last week.
Echo Taskforce detectives executed the compliance search at a Darius Terrace address on Tuesday morning.
Police seized cocaine, steroids, prescription drugs, an extendable baton and credit cards.
A South Morang man, 34, has been charged with possessing a drug of dependence – cocaine; possessing drug of dependence – prescription drug; possessing schedule four poison without authority; and possessing prohibited weapon; negligently deal with the proceeds of crime; unlawful possession of audio or audio visual police recording; and committing indictable offence while on bail.
He appeared at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court last week.
Firearm Prohibition Orders are an enforcement tool that provides police with specific powers to proactively respond to, disrupt and prevent firearm-related crime in Victoria and keep the community safe.
Once issued, an order remains in effect for 10 years for adults and five years for children, which are classified as those between 14 and 17 years.
During that time, the individual is prohibited from acquiring, possessing, carrying or using any firearm or firearm related item such as ammunition.
They are also unable to enter a range of premises including firearms dealers, shooting ranges or firearms clubs.
