Police, fire investigators and the coroner were at the property of a house fire on Tallarook-Pyalong Road, near Tallarook, on Monday.

Police have confirmed two people have died after a house fire near Tallarook last night.

Victoria Police arson squad and forensic specialists are investigating the circumstances surrounding the house fire on Tallarook-Pyalong Road, near Tallarook.

Emergency services were called to the property following reports of a fire just after 11pm.

Nine CFA trucks and 40 CFA firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control just after 12.30am.

Shepparton police acting Inspector Michael Layton confirmed this afternoon that two occupants of the house had died.

“These types of things in that small country and close-knit community, they certainly strike at the heart,” he said.

“It’s a tragedy.”
