The swings are in, the slide is up and the lines are painted on the basketball half-court – a new Pyalong play space is ready for action just in time for the school holidays.
Situated in the heart of town, the new play space is set to become a popular destination the community can enjoy.
The basketball half-court is perfect for a friendly game with mates, or families can watch their children master the climbing frame or fly high on the swings; there is also a nature play area with logs and stepping stones.
The new play space provides extra facilities in the town centre and aims to encourage visitors to spend more time in Pyalong, rather than passing through.
Work started on Pyalong social family recreation space at town centre park in late March and the park was opened to the public for the first time on Thursday.
The $120,000 council-funded project was designed as a place to bring people together to socialise and to be active.
The plans for the Pyalong Social Family Recreation Space were finalised following community input in 2019 and 2020.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said the play space would give residents a new place to come together and enjoy outdoor activities in the town centre.
“Pyalong has some great facilities in the main street already and this will add some exciting new features for locals and visitors to enjoy,” she said.
“We’re focused on providing outdoor spaces in our communities to encourage a healthy lifestyle and community connections.
“We also hope this new facility will encourage visitors to spend a little more time in Pyalong and drop into the local businesses while they are here.”
