MERNDA police have called for public assistance to help locate a driver who deliberately rammed a police vehicle in Wollert last month.

On Saturday, November 28, police flagged down a Mitsubishi Magna sedan, believed to be a 1999 or 2000 model, with no number plates at the intersection of Bridge Inn Road and Bindts Road just before 4.30pm.

As police were speaking to the driver he sped off, colliding with the side of the police car before travelling east on Bridge Inn Road towards Mernda.

Police described the driver as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 30s with a wispy beard. The man was wearing a ‘Raiders’ hat at the time of the incident.

The plateless Magna had a Mulwala Water Ski Club sticker on the left rear passenger window.

Investigators are urging anyone who might have information about the driver or who witnessed the collision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
