POLICE and Country Fire Authority arson squads are investigating a fire that destroyed Seymour FM’s transmitter facility in Granite Park early Sunday morning.
According to a post on Seymour FM’s Facebook page, four hooded people entered the facility multiple times from 9.50pm before entering the transmitter room and cutting power 40 minutes later, stopping the security camera feed.
Seymour FM president and technical services manager Ian McOwan said an audio processor, a RF transmitter and a reference monitor were stolen from the site.
Mr McOwan said the station was fortunate to have a temporary facility at its studio complex, however it had less power and listeners might be unable to receive the station in locations far from Seymour.
“It is unknown at this time how we will proceed but there have already been many calls of support, equipment loans, and more from the community radio sector, and several individuals in Seymour,” he said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Seymour police on 5735 0200.
